What I Learned From This Project In researching the field of artificial intelligence, it becomes apparent that AI technology has undergone tremendous development since its inception yet still has much work to do in the future. Where Alan Turing first proposed the concept of artificial intelligence in the 1950s, the development of language models like ChatGPT has allowed for the technology to reach 100 million users within a span of only two months. Moreover, numerous articles and reports within the technology sphere reveal that companies are investing hundreds of billions of dollars into the development of artificial intelligence technology worldwide. Yet, many of these same articles raise concerns regarding the ethics of artificial intelligence and the need for regulation of the technology. For instance, because AI systems may make decisions at a rapid rate and often in the place of humans, who is responsible for those decisions? Furthermore, how can AI systems be programmed in a way that avoids making biased decisions that could detrimentally impact the lives of individuals? Overall, while AI technology presents numerous benefits to humanity, those benefits should be obtained through the responsible and ethical development of such technologies.
